Meet the Therapist - Sandra Munro
What attracted you to become a therapist?
I spent most of my working life in training and discovered that I increasingly enjoyed working with people on a 1:1 basis and supporting their personal growth rather than building their skills.
What type of therapy do you practice and what is it like?
I'm a Person-Centred counsellor which means that I provide time and space for clients to find a way forward within a non-judgemental, therapeutic relationship. I believe that clients have the resources to reach their own solutions, they just need to be given the support to uncover their own way of being.
What type of clients do you usually see?
I work with individuals from 18 to 80 who are ready to give focus to making change in their lives.
What do you like about being a therapist?
It's hugely rewarding to see a client find peace and confidence in themselves.
If you had one piece of advice for someone thinking about therapy, what would it be?
Expect it to be personally challenging, it's not an easy option but it can be transformative.
What do you do for your own mental health?
Self-care is really important to me, and acknowledging my own needs. I have a great support network and interests that nourish me.
What happens in a first session with you?
An initial session is about establishing what a client is looking for and giving them the chance to decide if they feel I could help. The relationship is key and a client needs to be able to engage and commit to the process.
